Mike Lund Food: A Fine Dining Simple Sandwich Shop

Fine Dining Lovers Love Mike Lund’s Simple Sandwich Shop

Mike Lund Food, Fining DiningMike Lund has two beliefs. Eating out should be a fine dining experience, and the food should be simple and accessible.

If you’ve been a guest of the Inn at Old Virginia, you already know that he has achieved both with his restaurant and catering business.

But we’d like to add that his restaurant on Springhill Road also has a welcoming atmosphere as well as great food!

You can get “lundch” there Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. And on Thursday nights, treat yourself to a “to-go” dinner with such tasty fixings like Pork Tamale Pie.

Once a month, the restaurant has 1st Fridays, when dinner is served in-house. Make a reservation!

But what really makes what Mike calls “a simple sandwich shop” extraordinary is the blend of the foods you love with the training and fundamentals of fine dining. And that can be directly attributed to their fine dining background.

How A Fine Dining Background Created A Fine Dining Sandwich Shop

Cuban SandwichBoth Chef Mike Lund and Chef James Harris have been friends for years with their paths first crossing at the Inn at Little Washington, ranked the number one restaurant in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Mike worked as Executive Sous Chef in charge of all kitchen operations and James worked as kitchen manager.

After six years, Mike left to become the Executive Chef at Zynodoa. James later headed to Texas where he learned how to be a butcher!

But their paths crossed again when Mike called and asked James to come to Zynodoa as a Sous Chef, which he did. In 2010, Mike started Mike Lund Food and Lundch. As the business grew, he asked James to become his business partner, which he did.

Both chefs had the same vision for serving food: Keep it simple and keep it quality.

To do that, the chefs turned to local food vendors as much as possible. Everything, and we do mean everything, is made from scratch.

The beef they buy is sliced and roasted in-house with the bones used for making their own beef broth. Nothing is wasted!

So whether you have a Cuban sandwich with soup or Yucatan Banana Leaf Smoked Pork Shoulder, it’s all made from scratch. And that includes salad and mustard dressings.

As Mike said, “We’re kind of like a cover band. We take a song and make it better.”

Order Up is Part of This Fine Dining Experience

Mike Lund Food InteriorBecause simplicity is part of everything the restaurant does, order and pick up your lunch at the counter.

Then sit down to enjoy superior tasting food in a relaxed, casual setting.

Be sure to stroll through the retail specialty section at the restaurant, too. Many of the ingredients the chefs use to make their dishes are available for sale.

You’ll find specialty salt, vinegars, tomato paste, their homemade mustard dressing, as well as other items such as dolmas, local honey, maple syrup, Route 11 potato chips and specialty sodas.

They even carry Whistle Creek Dog Treats!

Remember, at the Inn, we make sure you start your morning with a gourmet breakfast. For the rest of your day, you’ve got so many local dining options. Make sure you include Mike Lund Food as part of your gourmet dining experience.

It’s the best of quality cuisine and small town charm!
